We just recently returned from a fourteen day mission trip to Florida and Tennessee, Yahweh has truly blessed our ministry on this trip with an unexpected blessing. First off on Sabbath, September 16^th, we went to the West Palm Beach Seventh-day Adventist Church that meets in a Presbyterian church in West Palm Beach. We were delighted to work with Pastor Joe Escobar. He and Mary Ann and I were baptized around the same time in Patchogue, New York in 1978! It was good to be working with him again to win souls.

Pastor Joe has a powerful ministry in West Palm Beach and they are planning to build a beautiful new sanctuary to accommodate the rapidly growing church. The people were eager to work for Jesus! The whole seminar was held on a Sabbath and the people got ten new Bible studies started before 4 pm! During the circle of prayer at the end of the meetings (picture to the right), Pastor Escobar prayed for someone to be given the burden to lead this group of approximately 25. The Lord answered his prayer and someone came to him impressed to continue the meetings monthly to keep the fire going!

Ten new Bible studies in one day is truly amazing, and two of the members said when they called the people said, “What took you so long, I was waiting for you to ask me to do Bible studies” ! One woman whose husband was in New York cried for joy when her husband said yes! The Holy Spirit is blessing the work of personal evangelism no doubt!

After spending an enjoyable five days with our lovely daughter Natalie in Altamonte Springs Florida, we headed on to the Jacksonville Florida Seventh-day Adventist Church. We held a seminar there on Sabbath, September 23rd and Sunday the 24^th. We enjoyed working with Pastor Mike Miller who like Pastor Joe in West Palm Beach Church gave his personal testimony. Both pastors had great testimonies of what Jesus had done in their lives.

Before the seminar was over on Sunday morning eight new Bible studies were started. The Pastor led out in a closing prayer in which he prayed for a leader to continue the monthly meetings of the graduating group of gospel workers. (The Picture is to the left). The Lord answered again and someone volunteered to lead out. It was a pleasure to be with these two Florida congregations. They were loving and friendly and willing to work for souls. To the right is a picture of Pastor Mike leading a group in practicing the Gospel presentation. We left Florida knowing that the Lord will bless these churches! If just one soul is won for Jesus from these two churches if would be worth doing a thousand of these week-ends. Jesus would have come to earth to save one! HalleluYAH!

On Sabbath, September 30^th, A Soul Winning Made Simple Seminar was held at my old church in Boone, North Carolina. New Life Fellowship is pastored by Pastor Charles Hindman who was not at the seminar but is a strong supporter of the program having used it in other churches he has pastored. Three new Bible studies were gotten during the Sabbath hours, one by a teenager Brittany Brown who called her friend and was excited about the training. Head Elder Robert Collins a faithful soul winner also got a new Bible study. I got one myself with a couple that was visiting the church! Elder Mike Stevens gave a stirring testimony about how Jesus worked in his life. Over 20 people finished the seminar. To the left is a picture of some of those who completed the training.

These seminars focus the members on the work of soul winning. What can be more important? Hundreds have accepted Christ over the years through this training. I have seen lives radically changed by the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is this that has spurred this ministry on and continues to do so. The devil hates the work of the gospel and will do all that he can to stop it. Keep this ministry in prayer.

Awhile back we received a call from Elder Robert Folkenberg (pictured on left) informing me that his son would be contacting me to digitally record myself and Ted Brackett a dear friend in Jesus and also the head elder of the Morganton SDA Church who has had great success winning souls for the Lord and also a man who the Lord has used to train churches using the Soul Winning Made Simple Seminar program.

Elder Robert Folkenberg Junior did call and ask if we could go to the McDonald Road Seventh-day Adventist Church on Monday, September 25^th. We met Ted and Jeannette there and enjoyed some great but too brief fellowship with them. I was a little nervous during the taping, and so my hanker-chief was in use, but I believed the Lord blessed. Robert Folkenberg Junior is definitely a chip off the old block and like his father has a heart for the work of evangelism! He informed us that our material will be offered to all those planning evangelism meetings through the Share Him Program (formerly called Global evangelism). This means that the training program and the Bible studies will be used all across America and maybe later the world! Please pray about this. We are thrilled that we can see the work spreading. If the Lord keeps on blessing and blessing, if He keeps on pouring it on, we don’t know what we’re going to do! Praise Yahweh’s holy name!

Why do we not eat unclean foods? Because it’s Biblical. Why are some vegans? Why do we care so much about our health? If it is to be healthier and take care of our body temple, then that’s the right thinking. If it’s to serve the Lord longer and think clearer, that too is right thinking. But if our motive is to gain merit with the Lord or to partly earn our salvation, then that’s bad thinking and bad theology!

“If you would gather together everything that is good and holy and noble and lovely in man and then present the subject to the angels of God as acting a part in the salvation of the human soul or in merit, the proposition would be rejected as treason.” Ellen White, Faith & Works, p. 24.

It is getting close to the Halloween time of year. I have noticed that the stores make a bigger deal about it each year, and more ad more adults take part in this holiday as the world drifts more and more into the moral abyss. Many Christians allow their children to participate in "Halloween" by dressing up in "Halloween costumes" and going to “costume parties" or going "trick or treating." A mentioned, in recent years, we are seeing more and more Christian adults also participating in the Halloween spirit! Even Christian homes have pictures of witches on their doors or windows, or have" ghosts" or white sheets hanging in their yards. This should not be Some Christian churches even have “haunted houses” set up for Halloween! Christians and non-Christians place lighted pumpkins on their doorsteps. Believers are being led to think that this is just "innocent fun" for them and their children. But is it? Many Christians are ignorant about the origin and occultism associated with the holiday we call Halloween.

Halloween traditions have never been connected with Christian religious celebrations of any kind. Halloween is purely of evil pagan origin. It is a pre-Christian occult celebration that still retains much of its original pagan form and meaning. Halloween customs can be traced back to the ancient Druids. The Druids believed that during the night of October 31, demons, witches, and evil spirits roamed the earth in wild and furious gambols of joy to greet the arrival of "their season" - the long nights and early dark of the winter months. Christians, unlike the unbelievers in God’s Word, do not deny that there are fallen angels called demons. We ought to know the terrible dangers in becoming entangled with these anti-Christian customs!

The Druids believed that these demons had their "fun" with the poor mortals that night. They believed that the only way for terrified humans to escape the "tricks" these demons pulled on that unholy night was to offer them things they liked, especially were unclean foods such as pork and ham, and sweets supposedly looked upon with favour by the demons! If the occupant of a home did not offer these things to the demons, then the occupants of that house, or the house itself would suffer some type of "trick" or mischief by the offended demons. This is where the practice of "trick or treat" originated! The phrase originated as a supernatural extortion threat! It is hard to imagine Yahshua Jesus going up to someone's door and saying "trick or treat" -"give me some unhealthy sweets or I'll do something to your house!" Yet so many Christian children carry on this unholy tradition!

The entire mood of the Halloween celebration is one of darkness and not light. Children are taught to think of witches goblins, ghosts and "haunted houses." This glorifies the prince of darkness and not the Lord Jesus Christ! The Bible says, "Whatsoever ye eat. or drink, or whatever you DO, do ALL to the GLORY of God."- 1 Corinthians 10:31.

It was also believed that another way to escape the fury of these demons was to disguise oneself as one of them and roam the streets with them. This is what the people did in ancient times to show they feared and honoured the demons! This is where the custom of wearing "Halloween costumes" originated! When Christians send their little children out on Halloween night dressed up in a costume, they are teaching them to observe the ancient Druid custom that originated in devil worship! See the Seventh-day Adventist Bible Students Source Book, Vol. 9 of the SDA Bible Commentary, p. 447 under the title "Halloween". The Bible plainly tells us NOT to take part in such things! Here is what the Lord says: "Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of devils." -1 Corinthians 10:21.

Witches, Satanists, and followers of the black arts still consider Halloween to be their high holy day! Police officers and fire fighters will readily tell you that the worst night of the year for crime, murder, child abducting, fires, and mayhem is Halloween night! It is a well-known fact that many children are poisoned or die in auto accidents while "trick or treating" each year. The spirit of evil reigns that night for those who know not Yahweh. Surely our heavenly Father is not pleased when His followers take part in such things! In Ephesians 5:8, He plainly tells us: "Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them." This we will do.

In the Encyclopaedia Britannica, Vol. IV, Micropedia, p. 862 under the heading "Halloween", the following is written: "In ancient Britain and Ireland the Celtic festival of Samhain was observed on October 31, at the end of summer This date... was the occasion for one of the ancient fire festivals when huge bonfires were set on hilltops to frighten away evil spirits... The souls of the dead were supposed to revisit their homes on this day, and the autumnal festival acquired SINISTER significance, with ghosts, witches, hobgoblins, black cats, fairies, and demons of all kinds said to be roaming about. "

As Christians, do we really want to be associated with something that is "sinister"? Let your children witness to those who come to your door "trick or treating" by handing out Christian tracts or colouring books. But do not participate in the objectionable traits of this sinister day. Do not give deference to the "holiday" at all! It is NOT a holiday that Christians ought to recognise or take part in. "Ye are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are NOT of the night nor of DARKNESS." -1 Thess. 5:5. "What fellowship has light with darkness, or Christ with Belial?" See 1 Corinthians 6:14-15. The Lord also tells us: "You shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft...or a sorcerer... or one who conjures spells...or one who calls up the dead for all who DO these things are an abomination to Yahweh." - Deuteronomy 18:9-12. Also, Yahweh, the God of heaven says, "Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing and I will receive you." -1 Cor. 6:17.

The ancient Druids also carved ugly faces in pumpkins and placed a candle inside them to scare away the demons that might approach their homes. Witches have a big part in the Halloween celebration. The Bible tells us that anyone who "practices witchcraft" or supports it is an "abomination" to Yahweh. See Deuteronomy 18:10. If you "celebrate" Halloween, you are for all practical purposes practicing a witch’s custom! The day itself is symbolized by "ghosts", "demons", "witches", "sorcerers", etc. How can a Christian celebrate or take part in the customs that originated in witchcraft? Why take part in the celebration of Satan's High Holy Day? These customs and associations with witches, sorcerers, and spirits of the dead (ghosts) are all an abomination to the Lord. It is "evil" in His sight and it "provokes Him to anger"!

In 2 Chronicles 33, verse 6, the Lord was talking about the evil done by Manasseh. The Lord said, "He made his children pass through the fire." This was a ritual bonfire as is still done at Halloween today! The Bible says he also "observed times, used enchantments, and used witchcraft" and he "dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards." The Lord said this was evil and provoked Him to anger! It is never innocent fun to dabble with things that are an abomination to Yahweh Elohim! (Elohim is the Hebrew name for God used in the Old Testament.)

It is not a joke or harmless to take part in the celebration of Halloween. Some parents say, "Well the kids have fun." But would these parents allow their children to go and have their palms read, or to have their future told with tarot cards, or to go to a hypnotist for "fun?" Such things are not fun and can lead to serious spiritual problems and many are led into a fascination with the supernatural and occult by this so-called innocent "fun". Christians beware!

True believers in the Messiah should not allow anything in their homes that smack of the occult. Harry Potter books and movies should be burned as they did in the New Testament with “magic books” and books of “curious arts.” Get rid of music, video games, movies, DVDs and any thing that is against Yahweh and His Son and the principles of the Word of God! Do not let the devil hide in your closet or sit on your shelf awaiting a chance to harm you spiritually. Paul said, “We are not ignorant of his devices.”

This is a sensitive subject, and a controversial one. But in this degenerate age where pornography is more easily accessible than ever before, I have been impressed to mention this subject. It's hardly ever heard, yet it affects the spiritual life. I’m talking about the subject of masturbation or as Ellen White called it “self-abuse” and “secret sin.” The worldly wise men classify this as perfectly normal and do not see it as sinful in any way. Oh really?

The Lord’s servant wrote, “This vice was shown to me as an abomination in the sight of God.” – Child Guidance, p. 452.

“Secret vice is the destroyer of high resolve, earnest endeavor, and strength of will to form a good religious character. All who have any true sense of what is embraced in being a Christian know that the followers of Christ are under obligation as His disciples to bring all their passions, their physical powers and mental faculties into perfect subordination to His will. Those who are controlled by their passions cannot be followers of Christ.” – Child Guidance, p. 446.

Is masturbation sin? “Some who make a high profession do not understand the sin of self-abuse and its sure results. Long established habit has blinded their understanding. They do not realize the exceeding sinfulness of this degrading sin.” – Child Guidance, p. 441.

Ellen White wrote about a vision she had received regarding a man who practiced this secret sin. She wrote: “This man had gone so far he seemed to be left of God. He would go into the woods and spend days and nights in fasting and prayer that he might overcome this great sin, and then would return to his old habits. God did not hear his prayers. He asked God to do for him what had been in his power to do for himself. He had vowed to God time and again, and had as often broken his vows and given himself up to his own corrupt lust, until God had left him to work his own ruin. He has since died. He was a self-murderer. The purity of heaven will never be marred with his society.” Ibid. p. 452.

“Young girls are not as a general thing clear of the crime of self-abuse. They practice it, and as a result, their constitutions are being ruined.” 2T, p. 409.

The sin of self abuse is truly bewitching! “I have been shown that persons of apparently good deportment, not taking unwarrantable liberties with the other sex, were guilty of practicing secret vice nearly every day of their lives. They have not refrained from this terrible sin even while most solemn meetings have been in session. They have listened to the most solemn, impressive discourses upon the judgment, which seemed to bring them before the tribunal of God, causing them to fear and quake; yet hardly an hour would lapse before they would be engaged in their favorite bewitching sin, polluting their own bodies. They were such slaves to this awful crime that they seemed devoid of power to control their passions.” Ibid. p. 441.

“Put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regards to its lusts.” Romans 13:14

“Let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” – 2 Cor. 7:1.

“They that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the lusts thereof.” – Galatians 5:24

“Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. And everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things . . . I buffet my body and make it my slave, lest possibly, after I have preached to others, I myself should be disqualified.” – 1 Cor. 9:24-27.
